Xiaomi’s Mat will record exercise like push-ups and sit-ups

You can calculate running, walking, cycling by a fitness band or a smartwatch. Smartphone apps, like Google Fit and Samsung’s S Health, also help you to do so. But how do you calculate your push-ups or sit-ups or crunches? Is there any device which can calculate these exercises?

Unfortunately, we still don’t have any devices which calculate these exercises. But soon Xiaomi will solve this problem with its exercise mat.

Xiaomi introduces a mat with capabilities to record these exercises. A recent patent application of Xiaomi discloses the invention which will give information of some exercises which smartphone apps can’t perform. The mat will have pressure sensors which will determine critical force areas to find the exercise type and other details.

The sensors will find forced parts of your body — head, arms, hips and foot — when doing an exercise. By determining these parts’ critical force, it will determine the exercise type and user state.

Because different types of exercises are featured with different critical force areas, the mat will determine the critical force areas according to the types of the exercises supported by the mat.

For example, if your exercise is sit-up, then the corresponding force areas include your head, hips and foot. Accordingly, the mat only needs these three critical force areas to determine the sit-up.

For another example, if the exercise is push-up, the corresponding force areas include your arm and foot. Therefore, the mat only needs these two critical force areas for recording the push-up.

Critical force areas will determine exercises details precisely. These details could be seen through the smartphone as the mat will be paired with your smartphone.

That’s how Xiaomi is inventing more products for the international markets. Also the filing of patent application is improving by Xiaomi, especially in the US. Xiaomi is really going place, suggests its patent portfolio analysis which gives a complete description about its history as well its future products.
